SALINAS — Arts Council for Monterey County will present Open Mic featuring Monterey County Poet Laureate Daniel Summerhill and Monterey County Youth Poet Laureate Mahi Shah on Tuesday, Oct. 17. The free community event, which also includes local students sharing poems, will take place from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at ArtWorks @Salinas, 262 Main St., in Salinas.


COOKING DEMO

KING CITY — A Blue Zones Project Cooking Demonstration will take place Tuesday, Oct. 17, from 6 to 7 p.m., at the King City Recreation Department. Participants can discover the benefits of a plant-based diet and learn how to make a new healthy dish. Register at bit.ly/KingCity_CookingDemo.


LCAP MEETINGS

KING CITY/GREENFIELD — South Monterey County Joint Union High School District is developing its next Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) and new Facilities Master Plan, which will be implemented beginning next school year and over several years after. The District is planning multiple community forums to gather input not only from students, staff and parents, but also from the greater community to help design curriculum pathways for future graduates and the facilities that will support them. The next two meetings, with a focus on education, are set for Oct. 17, from 6 to 7 p.m., in the Library at King City High School, 720 Broadway St.; and Oct. 19, from 7 to 8 p.m., in the Student Union at Greenfield High School, 225 S.
