MISS RODEO

SALINAS — Young ladies who are passionate about the western lifestyle and promoting the rodeo industry can run for the title of Miss California Rodeo Salinas and become an ambassador for the largest professional rodeo in the state. Entries for the 2021 contest are now being accepted through June 7. The competition is open to young women between 18 and 22 years of age who are representing either a recognized horsemen’s organization or another recognized non-commercial community organization. The winner will travel to various events promoting the California Rodeo Salinas throughout the year. MONTEREY COUNTY — Transportation Agency for Monterey County is challenging those living, working or going to school in Monterey County to “Spring Into Action” for its Go831 Challenge through May 31. Participants can share their “springing into action” photos on the Go831 Instagram page at instagram.com/go_831/ with the hashtags #go831 #springintoaction831 and #telework. Residents who participate in the challenge will have a chance to win one of five $100 gift cards to a local business. DIVERSITY CELEBRATION

SEASIDE — Taiwanese-American bestselling essayist and novelist Esmé Weijun Wang will share her perspectives on mental health, wellbeing and perseverance at the last of the virtual Diversity Celebration Series, 5:30 to 7 p.m. on May 4. In 2015, Esmé was diagnosed with late-stage Lyme disease, and she also lives with schizoaffective disorder, which she channels into her writing. For the free Diversity Celebration event, which occurs during Mental Health Awareness Month, she will share her thoughts and experiences, then be joined by faculty moderators, and the forum will be opened to audience questions. The Zoom webinar will be streamed via Facebook and YouTube Live, and registration is required.
