WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA
KING CITY — Wreaths Across America’s Mobile Educational Exhibit is coming to Marina and King City on May 13 and 14. Sponsored by Southern Monterey County Republican Women Federated and Wreaths Across America, the mobile unit will be at the Veteran’s Transition Center, 220 12th St., in Marina on Thursday and at Salinas Valley Fairgrounds, 625 Division St., in King City on Friday, both days from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is a free event to learn, support and honor veterans and their families. The mobile unit will provide information about becoming involved with volunteering, donating and sharing to help place wreaths on the veterans’ graves, including an official ceremony this year on Saturday, Dec. 18, at 10 a.m. at the King City Cemetery. GREENFIELD — Greenfield Recreation Department will host a cooking class with City Councilmember Yanely Martinez starting May 14, and taking place on Fridays from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Children ages 8 and up are invited, but space is limited. For more information, call 831-236-1230.
ARMY OPEN HOUSE
JOLON — Fort Hunter Liggett is opening its doors to the public on May 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the chance to talk to soldiers and army civilians, fire an M4 at a virtual target in an army weapons simulator, check out army equipment and vehicles, see inside a barracks, watch soldiers demonstrate the latest physical fitness test, view historic buildings and learn about how the installation supports training and takes care of its land and cultural resources. All events are free to the public and celebrate the installation’s 80 years of continuous service to the country. Visitors will be greeted at the intersection of Jolon and Mission roads, and given passes, a map and schedule of events. Covid-19 protocols will be in place.
BONUS BRIEF: WORKSHOP REOPENED
GREENFIELD — Starting April 27, Greenfield Community Science Workshop reopened its indoor space to the public and expanded programming to five days per week, Tuesday through Saturday. The workshop, 45 El Camino Real, will be open 2 to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays through Fridays, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.
