STOP SIGN CHANGE
CHUALAR — Chualar residents may have noticed that the “STOP” signs have recently changed at Main and Grant streets. Now, if motorists are coming off Highway 101 onto Main Street or coming from Chualar River Road going toward the Main and Grant streets intersection, they have the right of way. Motorists on Grant Street now have a stop sign. “This will help the flow of traffic,” stated the County of Monterey. “Please obey the new signage — there is no need to stop if you are on Main Street going east through the intersection.”
NEW BUSINESSES
KING CITY — The City of King’s economic development program is starting to show results in attracting new businesses. A ribbon-cutting ceremony for King City’s newest restaurant, El Taquero Deli, took place May 31 at 327 Broadway St. Across the street, at 320 Broadway St., a new beer garden is under construction. Both projects took advantage of the City’s facade enhancement and outdoor dining grants. Meanwhile, at 1023 Broadway St., a new Dutch Bros Coffee has been issued a building permit and is beginning grading work. Next door, Grocery Outlet has submitted its building permit application. These projects were made possible by the former King City Community Development Agency, which acquired the property and later sold it to the developer.
MUTTON BUSTING
SALINAS — California Rodeo Salinas’ most beloved annual attractions is the mutton busting, or sheep riding, which takes place during the Rodeo performances as well as the Big Week Bull Riding. Young aspiring cowboys and cowgirls can participate in the mutton busting event, sponsored by Pacific Valley Bank, at all four California Rodeo Salinas performances from July 18 to 21, as well as at the Big Week Bull Riding Xtreme Bulls event on July 17. Children ages 4 to 7, weighing a maximum of 60 pounds, are eligible to ride sheep during the competitions on July 17-20. The top three riders with the longest ride times from each day will compete in the finals on July 21 for a chance to win a prize belt buckle. Entries must be submitted by midnight on June 6. Entry forms can be found at carodeo.com. Only 66 riders will be selected in a random drawing on June 7 and notified the following week.
BONUS BRIEF: MISSION MURAL
KING CITY — King City in Bloom, in partnership with the Arts Council for Monterey County, is hosting a ribbon cutting on Friday, June 7, at 1 p.m. for the Mission San Antonio de Padua mural located at 122 N. Second St. in King City. The ceremony will commemorate the history of the mission and honor the artists behind the new mural. A donation check will also be presented to the Campaign for the Preservation of Mission San Antonio de Padua.
