LISTENING SESSION

KING CITY — A community listening session to learn about the next steps in King City’s Active Transportation Project is set for Wednesday, June 4, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Hartnell College’s King City Education Center, 117 N. Second St., Community Room, in King City. Hear directly from the project team and see what improvements are on the way to make streets safer and more accessible for everyone, including a paved multi-use path, close sidewalk and ADA curb gaps and roundabouts. Dinner will be provided, with Spanish interpretation services available. There will also be a chance to win a bike, scooter or skateboard in a community raffle.


GROUNDWATER BOARD

SALINAS VALLEY — Salinas Valley Basin Groundwater Sustainability Agency (SVBGSA) is accepting applications for the Board of Directors’ Public Member seat. The SVBGSA is governed by a board of 11 directors, each with an alternate who can serve in the primary director’s absence. The three-year term for the Public Member seat ends July 1, 2028. Interested stakeholders are encouraged to review the eligibility requirements and board member expectations. Applications can be accessed on the website svbgsa.org and are due Thursday, June 5, at 5 p.m. The SVBGSA Board will consider applications at the regular Board meeting on June 12. Following consideration, recommendations for the Public Member primary and alternate will be forwarded to the Monterey County Board of Supervisors for appointment in keeping with the SVBGSA’s JPA agreement. ADOPT-A-PET DAY

MONTEREY COUNTY — SPCA Monterey County is participating in the second annual California Adopt-A-Pet Day on Saturday, June 7, with adoption fees waived thanks to generous donors. More than 150 California shelters are taking part in this statewide event. SPCA’s event runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1002 Monterey-Salinas Highway, across from WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Visitors are encouraged to arrive early, as no holds will be available during the event. Those with existing dogs are advised to bring their pets along for meet-and-greets. In addition to adopting, the SPCA offers programs like Doggy Day Out and Foster to Adopt. Call 831-373-2631 or visit SPCAmc.org for more details. BONUS BRIEF: COMMUNITY CAR SHOW

SALINAS — The College of Agriculture, Business and Industries at Hartnell College will host its inaugural Community Day Car Show on Sunday, June 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hartnell Alisal Campus, located at 1752 E. Alisal St. in Salinas. The event had been originally scheduled for last month but was postponed due to weather. This free, family-friendly event has reached vehicle registration capacity, featuring over 95 classic and custom cars, trucks and motorcycles. Attendees can enjoy live entertainment, raffle prizes and food from a local taco truck. Visitors will also have the opportunity to tour the campus, meet instructors and learn about academic and student support programs. The first 200 attendees will receive a free lunch ticket courtesy of the organizers. Showcased programs include career pathways in high-demand industries, such as automotive technology, agriculture, construction management, welding and more. All proceeds from vehicle registration support student scholarships.
