CLEAN SLATE DAY
MONTEREY COUNTY — The County of Monterey Public Defender’s Office has announced the annual “Clean Slate Day” on Friday, June 28, at three different locations: the Courtyard of the County Government Center in Salinas from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.; the Greenfield Civic Center in Greenfield from 12 to 3 p.m.; and exclusively for women at Gathering for Women in Monterey from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. The event aims to assist individuals clean past records of felony and misdemeanor arrests and convictions. It is limited to Monterey County criminal matters. Attorneys from the Public Defender will be on hand to provide advice on the available options for relief. CLEANUP DAY
GONZALES — City of Gonzales and other organizations have planned a Reuse, Recycle and Cleanup Day on Saturday, June 29, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. (or until boxes are full) at Fairview Middle School, 401 Fourth St. in Gonzales. Only residents of Gonzales can dispose of such items as general garbage, electronics, TVs, computers, metal appliances and metal and steel items, including refrigerators and freezers, for free. No furniture or yard waste will be accepted. In addition, there will be a special materials collection for antifreeze, batteries, oil and paint.
FREEDOM FEST
JOLON — Fort Hunter Liggett is hosting its fourth annual Independence Day celebration with a public event called Freedom Fest on Saturday, June 29, from 6 to 10 p.m. The event will take place at Schoonover Airfield, which is accessible via Jolon Road, a public road. The event is open to the general public and costs $5 per person; children age 5 and under are free.
