CARNIVAL OPENS

SALINAS — The California Rodeo Salinas Carnival kicks off Friday, July 14, and is open daily from 3 to 11 p.m. through Sunday, July 23, at 295 Sun Way in Salinas. The carnival, presented by Joy-Per’s Shoes and Clothing, offers family entertainment during Big Week. “We’re excited that Brass Ring Amusements Midway of Fun will be back in town for the 2023 Rodeo Carnival,” said Danny Little, chairman of the carnival committee. “Last year’s event was one of the best carnivals in the Rodeo’s history, and we look forward to providing another great family-friendly experience for everyone in our community this year.” Visit carodeo.com for more information about the 2023 Rodeo Carnival as well as the California Rodeo Salinas, which takes place July 20-23.


BACKYARD CONCERT

KING CITY — Sol Treasures’ 2023 Backyard Concert Series continues with classic rock music by Paradise Road on Friday, July 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. in King City. The free event is open to everyone to enjoy an evening in the gallery’s backyard at 519 Broadway St., while listening to some live music.


ADOPTION EVENT

MONTEREY COUNTY — SPCA Monterey County is hosting its Summer of Love Adoption Event this weekend, during which community members can pick their price to adopt animals. From Friday through Sunday, July 14-16, adopters can choose the adoption fee on SPCA’s adoptable pets, including cats, dogs, kittens, puppies, hamsters, guinea pigs, rats, rabbits, mice, red-eared sliders, parakeets, pigeons and doves. SPCA recommends arriving early — no holds will be available during the event. The SPCA is located at 1002 Monterey-Salinas Highway, across from WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.
