SIDEWALK CHALLENGE
SALINAS VALLEY — Residents in Gonzales, Greenfield and Soledad are encouraged to join the colorful sidewalk “Summer Walk Challenge,” now through July 31, for a chance to win a new bike or scooter. Transportation Agency for Monterey County in collaboration with the Monterey County Health Department and community volunteers recently stenciled sidewalks in each of the South Monterey County cities to prepare students for safe walking routes to schools in the fall. The summer challenge is an opportunity for residents to learn the routes and practice walking to school. To participate, take a picture while walking any of the routes this month and then post it on Instagram with the hashtag #saferoutesmonterey or share to “Safe Routes to School – Monterey County” via Facebook. For route maps or more details, visit saferoutesmonterey.org.
