BIKE WORKSHOP

GREENFIELD — Greenfield Community Science Workshop and Monterey County Health Department will host a Bike Repair Workshop on Feb. 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the GCSW location, 45 El Camino Real in Greenfield. The free workshop will teach youth how to repair their bikes. To donate a bike, or for information, call 831-796-2873 or 831-304-0355.


POETRY CONTEST

MONTEREY COUNTY — Who will be the next Monterey County Poetry Out Loud champion? Find out on Feb. 6 at 1 p.m. by joining the free live virtual event via YouTube and Facebook, presented by Arts Council for Monterey County. This year, students from Alisal, Gonzales, Pacific Grove, Rancho San Juan, Soledad and York high schools will participate, with the county winner moving on to compete in the California Poetry Out Loud Finals in March. Poetry Out Loud is a national program that encourages high school students to learn about great poetry, both classic and contemporary, through memorization, performance and competition.


TRANSIT BOARD

MONTEREY COUNTY — Transportation Agency for Monterey County elected new members to serve as officers and members of their executive committee. Council member Ed Smith from Salinas will serve as chair. Serving as first vice chair is county supervisor Mary Adams from District 5. Serving as second vice chair is Mayor Mike LeBarre of King City. The county representative is Supervisor Chris Lopez of District 3. The city representative is Mayor Kimbley Craig of Salinas.
