NARCAN DISTRIBUTION
SALINAS VALLEY — Sun Street Centers will be hosting a Narcan drive-thru training and distribution in all four South Monterey County cities on Sunday, Feb. 25, from 12 to 4 p.m. The locations are as follows: in King City, Chalone Peaks Middle School parking lot, 667 Meyer St.; in Greenfield, Greenfield Fire Department, corner of Oak and Fourth streets (enter from Fourth Street); in Soledad, Soledad High School, 425 Gabilan Drive; and in Gonzales, Gonzales High School – Spartan Alley (enter from Fifth Street). Narcan is simple to use and can save someone’s life who has taken or been exposed to fentanyl. The first 100 vehicles at each location will receive a box of Narcan and the training for free. SALINAS — U.S. Rep. Zoe Lofgren announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will distribute $3,752,847 in federal funding to two health centers in Salinas and Watsonville as part of the Health Center Program. “Federally Qualified Health Centers like Clinica de Salud del Valle de Salinas and Salud Para La Gente provide critical health care services to some of our most vulnerable community members. I’m proud to announce this federal funding that will help ensure residents have access to quality and affordable health care services,” said Lofgren. A total of $2,214,146 will go to Clinica de Salud del Valle de Salinas to continue offering comprehensive healthcare services to residents in the Salinas Valley, while $1,538,701 will go to Salud Para La Gente to continue offering comprehensive healthcare services to residents in Watsonville and greater Santa Cruz County. This funding comes from HHS’s Health Center Program, which is overseen by the Health Resources and Services Administration, to support community-based and patient-directed nonprofit organizations that provide primary and preventive health care services to underserved populations.
ALLIANCE BOARD
MONTEREY COUNTY — Alliance on Aging has announced the election of a new governing Board of Directors for 2024-25. Established in 1970, the Alliance on Aging is a community leader and advocate providing extensive services and resources that address challenges and opportunities for older adults in Monterey County. The Executive Board consists of President Tina Del Piero, Vice President Mary Brusuelas, Treasurer Joel Jansek and Secretary Jana Hatton. The Board welcomes two new members: Maury Treleven of Gonzales and Danielle Vierra of Moss Landing, who will join Board members Susan Gibbons, Carmen Gill, Steve Ish, Vic Johnson, Brandon Hill and Liz Lorenzi. The local programs of the AOA include Medicare Counseling and Education, Senior Peer Counseling, Nursing Home Information and Advocacy, and tax counseling for seniors. The Alliance on Aging’s 200 volunteers serve seniors, their adult children, caregivers and “Baby Boomers” throughout Monterey County.
