STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS

MONTEREY COUNTY — Monterey County Cattlemen and Cattlewomen 2023 scholarship applications are now available. Graduating high school seniors who live in Monterey County and are planning a degree in agriculture are eligible to apply. Applications can be downloaded at montereycountycattlemen.org under the “Scholarships” tab. Submission deadline is March 17. SOLEDAD — City of Soledad is seeking community input regarding its city manager selection. There will be two sessions where residents can share their thoughts about the characteristics, experience and background they would like to see in a new city manager. An in-person session is set for Friday, Feb. 17, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Soledad Community Center, 560 Walker Drive, and a virtual session is Wednesday, Feb. 22, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. via Zoom (https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86564704061). The city manager is responsible for the overall administration of all city government departments and oversees the enforcement of all pertinent state and federal laws and municipal ordinances. POLICE ACADEMY

SOLEDAD — Soledad Police Department’s Community Police Academy will be starting on March 1 and continuing through April 12. The eight-week academy — the first of two academies planned this year — will offer eight classes on Wednesdays from 6 to 9 p.m., featuring such topics as Administrative/Field Operations, Community Policing Unit, K-9 Unit, Traffic Unit, Investigations and CSI Unit, Firearm Safety, Use of Force/Less Lethal Weapons and Gang Awareness. Graduation will be held April 26. Interested participants must be 18 years of age or older and not have any felony convictions, outstanding warrants nor pending criminal cases.
