WINTER READING

MONTEREY COUNTY — Monterey County Free Libraries is hosting the Winter Reading Program throughout the months of December and January to encourage reading. The program began Dec. 2, and participants can sign up at their nearest MCFL branch or online through Beanstack. Each participant will get a free book when they sign up and a small prize after reading for six hours. Participants can pick up their winter reading log and book prize at any MCFL branch. The program will end on Jan. 31.


STUDENT DEBT WEBINAR

MONTEREY COUNTY — The Office of Sen. Anna Caballero, in partnership with the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI) and the Campaign for California Borrowers’ Rights Coalition, will host a Student Debt Webinar on Thursday, Dec. 5, from 2 to 3 p.m. The free, online event aims to provide valuable information for student loan borrowers on navigating repayment plans, understanding recent federal changes and accessing trusted resources. POLENTA FEED

KING CITY — Salinas Valley Fair Heritage Foundation’s annual Polenta and Stew Feed fundraiser will be held Thursday, Dec. 5, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds, 625 Division St., in King City. Tickets include a polenta and stew dinner, along with dessert and a no-host bar. In addition to a raffle, Santa will be coming into town for pictures at 6 p.m. Guests are asked to bring an unwrapped gift for the toy drive, as well. KING CITY — A Christmas Coat Drive is taking place now at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds, 625 Division St., in King City. Drop off new or gently used coats at the fairgrounds until Dec. 16. Call 831-385-3243 for more details.
