SALINAS VALLEY — Salinas Valley residents are being reminded by Waste Management that Christmas trees can either be recycled curbside if cut to fit within the green waste cart with the lid closed on the regularly scheduled collection day, or dropped off for free at the Jolon Road Transfer Station in King City, Johnson Canyon Road Landfill in Gonzales or Sun Street Transfer Station in Salinas through Jan. 31. Waste Management also reminds residents to properly sort holiday waste.


POP-UP TESTING

SALINAS VALLEY — Free Covid-19 pop-up testing sites continue this week in Monterey County. In Salinas, St. Mary of the Nativity Catholic Church at 1702 Second Ave. will be hosting a testing site Monday, Dec. 28, from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. and Tuesday, Dec. 29, from 1 to 5 p.m. No appointments are needed. State-supported sites in Castroville, Salinas, Seaside and Soledad will be closed Friday, Jan. 1, in observance of New Year’s Day. However, those sites are open by appointment Tuesday through Thursday as well as Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. More information at mtyhd.org/covidtesting.


FAIR THEME

MONTEREY COUNTY — Monterey County Fair announced a contest to come up with the 2021 fair theme for the upcoming fair in the late summer. In 2021, the fair is scheduled for Sept. 2 through 6. The deadline to submit a theme idea is Dec. 31. The winner will receive $100 and two family ticket packages to the fair. The winner’s theme will be used as the official theme of the 2021 Monterey County Fair and used in promotions. Entrants are asked not to submit themes that include mentions of the pandemic, Covid-19 or coronavirus. Themes can be submitted via email to en***@mo****************.com.
