FAIR VOLUNTEERS
MONTEREY COUNTY — Monterey County Fair and Event Center is seeking volunteers to help support this year’s Fair, set for Aug. 31 to Sept. 4. Volunteers play an intrinsic role in making the Monterey County Fair a success each year, and they can contribute in areas such as building set-up, entry receiving and building administrative support. If volunteers have specific interests, such as quilting, gardening, baking or other related areas, they should specify preferences upon signing up for a time slot. In addition, volunteers will have access to free Fair admission for the day of their shift and a one-day parking pass valid for any paid Fair parking lot. If interested, potential volunteers are encouraged to attend the 2023 Volunteer Orientation on Wednesday, Aug. 9, at 6 p.m. in the Fair Seaside Room, 2004 Fairground Road, in Monterey. GREENFIELD — Monterey County Supervisor Chris Lopez will host the third annual District 3 Open House on Thursday, Aug. 10, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at his main office located at the Greenfield Civic Center, 599 El Camino Real, in Greenfield. During the event, the winners of the “We Are Southern Monterey County” painting and photography competition will be recognized, along with the South County Young Leaders for their work this summer. LITTLE ARTISTS
KING CITY — Sol Treasures’ current gallery exhibit is an extension of its Maya exhibit that showcases the art created by students at Chispa sites in Greenfield and King City and children from the Recreation Summer program. A Meet the Artist event is set for Friday, Aug. 11, from 4 to 6 p.m., during which the youth will get to show their family, friends and community members their work. There will also be a fun runway show, where students get to model the outfits or dresses they created this summer out of recycled material. This is a free community event at the gallery, 519 Broadway St. in King City, and all ages are welcome.

MONTEREY COUNTY — Monterey County Free Libraries has received a collection of free books for each branch from the First Partner’s Book Club. Launched in partnership with the California State Library, the First Partner’s Summer Book Club is an initiative to reduce summer learning loss and encourage children to read all summer long.
