CLEANUP DAY
GREENFIELD — A Greenfield Cleanup Day is planned for Saturday, April 29, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Greenfield Corporation Yard, 920 Walnut Ave. The event is only open to local residents, who can dispose of such items as general garbage, mattresses, electronics, TVs, computers, metal appliances and metal and steel items, including refrigerators and freezers, for free. Furniture, yard waste and wood will not be accepted.
SCIENCE DAY
SALINAS — Hartnell College student clubs, staff and faculty will highlight the fantastic world of science to inspire the next generation of scientists in the Salinas Valley at the 17th Annual STEAM Family Science Day on Sunday, April 30. Science Day will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Hartnell College Willard Lewallen Stem Center on the main campus, 411 Central Ave., in Salinas. Opening remarks will be made at 1 p.m. by James Hansen Newman, Ph.D., an American physicist and a former NASA astronaut who flew on four Space Shuttle missions. Then, meet Olympic softball gold medalist Monica Abbott at 2:30 p.m., when she will unveil her first book, “Rise and Shine: The Monica Abbott Story.” This free event is open to the public and parking will be accessible on campus. Some of the activities and services offered include hands-on activities, health screenings, music, science demonstrations and more. There will also be a Community Resource Fair with valuable information for all families.

KING CITY — Southern Monterey County Republican Women Federated will host its monthly luncheon meeting on Tuesday, May 2, at 11:30 a.m. at King Kora Restaurant, 611 Canal St., in King City.
