KING CITY — Join the excitement at the Monterey County Agricultural and Rural Life Museum in King City on Saturday, April 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the Gold Rush Jamboree – Living History Day, where the spirit of the 1849 Gold Rush comes to life. Families can enjoy a range of activities, including gold panning, old-time games and traditional chores. Admission to the park and museum is free, and the first 25 children can pan for gold at no cost. A Swiss sausage barbecue will be available for purchase, with tickets now on sale in the Gift Shop and online. Attendees can also explore a lively vendor fair, interactive historical displays and celebrate the grand reopening of the Gift Shop, featuring new offerings. Each barbecue ticket supports museum programs, making it a great opportunity to enjoy good food and learn about history.
YOUTH JOB FAIR
SOLEDAD — Monterey County Works and the City of Soledad will host a South County Young Adult Job Fair on Saturday, April 12, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Soledad Community Center, located at 560 Walker Drive. Employers in healthcare, hospitality, agriculture, transportation and tourism are actively hiring. While the event targets young adults aged 18-24, all jobseekers are welcome. Those unable to attend this event can participate in another job fair on April 23 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Salinas Career Center. Registration is suggested at montereycountyworks.com. FILM SCREENING
SEASIDE — California State University Monterey Bay will host renowned Iranian filmmaker Rakhshan Banietemad on Wednesday, April 16, for a complimentary screening of her acclaimed film “Under the Skin of the City,” followed by a Q&A session. The event will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. in Building 504 (CAHSS), Room 1401. Often hailed as the “First Lady of Iranian Cinema,” Banietemad’s work highlights the struggles of marginalized communities in Iran, particularly focusing on women. Her film, which centers on a working-class mother’s fight for her family amid adversity, has garnered significant international recognition. After the screening, a discussion featuring the film’s Director of Photography, Hossein Jafarian, will follow, moderated by Iranian-American actress Niousha Noor. The event is presented in partnership with Documentary Voice, promoting cross-cultural dialogue through film.
