SALINAS VALLEY — Monterey County Office of Education’s Migrant Education Program Region 16 provided toys for children and warm blankets for their families last week at school sites in Gonzales, Soledad, Chualar, King City, San Lucas and San Ardo.
“This is our 10th toy giveaway,” said Esther Medina, a specialist with the Migrant Education Program. “We gave out gifts to children from 1 to 13 years old and also gave out blankets to the families.”
In just Gonzales, more than 70 migrant families received toys and blankets during the drive-thru giveaway, held at the Gonzales High School parking lot.
“Because of Covid-19, we had the families drive up to our tables where we handed out the gifts and blankets,” Medina said. “Most of the toys we gave out to families were donated to Migrant Education from the Salvation Army.”
Covid-19 protocols were followed at all the school sites.
