SALINAS VALLEY ā Salinas Valley Basin Groundwater Sustainability Agency (SVBGSA) is now accepting applications for its Advisory Committee, a crucial body responsible for guiding groundwater management strategies in the region.
The committee provides valuable input and consensus-based recommendations to the SVBGSA Board of Directors, playing a key role in shaping sustainable groundwater practices across the Salinas Valley.
The Advisory Committee reflects a diverse range of perspectives, representing various agencies and groundwater users throughout the area. Members are expected to serve as effective advocates, collaborate with a variety of stakeholders, dedicate time to understanding complex groundwater issues, represent community diversity and engage in focused, productive discussions. The committee supports the implementation of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act by overseeing the coordinated development and execution of six Groundwater Sustainability Plans.
The committee will consist of 11 to 13 members, selected from six subbasin committees, four partner agencies ā including the Monterey County Water Resources Agency, Arroyo Seco GSA, Marina Coast Water District GSA and Monterey One Water ā and up to three public seats designated by the Board. Members serve three-year terms and may be reappointed but cannot serve concurrently on the SVBGSA Board of Directors.
Applications must be submitted by Aug. 1 at noon. Interested individuals can apply online at tinyurl.com/4e5tjzur.
Nomination opportunities will also be available during upcoming subbasin committee meetings, where candidates can be nominated to serve on the Advisory Committee. Scheduled meeting dates include:
- 180/400 Subbasin: Thursday, Aug. 7, from 1 to 3 p.m.
- Eastside Subbasin: Monday, Aug. 11, from 10 a.m. to noon
- Forebay Subbasin: TBD, tentatively in August
- Langley Subbasin: Wednesday, Sept. 3, from 9 to 11 a.m.
- Monterey Subbasin: Wednesday, Aug. 27, from noon to 2 p.m.
- Upper Valley Subbasin: TBD, tentatively in August
Partner agencies, including the Monterey County Water Resources Agency, Arroyo Seco GSA, Marina Coast Water District GSA and Monterey One Water, will also nominate one representative each. In addition to subbasin and agency seats, interested individuals are encouraged to apply for up to three Board-Designated Member seats, which are open to all interested parties.
The SVBGSA Board is scheduled to appoint committee members during its regular meeting on Sept. 11. The first meeting with newly appointed members will take place on Oct. 16. For more information or questions about the application process, individuals are advised to contact cl***@****sa.org.
