SOUTH COUNTY — Cal Fire plans to conduct a prescribed burn on private property in the Gabilan Range near Soledad in Monterey County on Tuesday, Nov. 7.
The purpose of the project is to reduce flammable vegetation near the communities of Soledad and Gonzales, as well as increase available water and deer forage. The project may burn up to 318 acres.
The project is dependent upon proper weather conditions; thus, Cal Fire is in close consultation with the National Weather Service’s Monterey office and the Monterey Bay Unified Air Pollution Control District for the forecast. Firefighters want to ensure that wind direction carries any smoke away from Salinas Valley to minimize impacts.
The San Benito-Monterey Unit of Cal Fire will provide updates for this controlled burn via Facebook and Twitter the day of the burn: www.facebook.com/CALFIREBEU; http://twitter.com/CALFIREBEU.
