SOLEDAD — Monterey County District Attorney’s Office has announced that a man is recovering in the hospital following a Soledad police-involved shooting that occurred late Thursday night near the 1700 block of Vosti Avenue in Soledad.
At about 11:38 p.m. on Nov. 14, Soledad Police dispatch received a 911 call reporting that a man was hiding and had been threatened by people who were allegedly shooting at him. This initial report indicated he was near the 1700 block of Vosti Avenue in Soledad.
“The dispatchers updated the call to a reported shooting into an occupied dwelling,” according to the Monterey County DA’s Office in a news release Friday. “Just prior to police arrival, the reported shooting was determined to be unfounded.”
At 11:42 p.m., Soledad Police dispatch contacted a resident in the 1700 block of Vosti. The situation remained unclear and was being investigated with a response by three officers from the Soledad Police Department who were on the scene within minutes.
Officers contacted the subject at the 1700 block of Vosti Avenue and requested he come talk to them. The subject “rapidly approached the officers while holding a long metal machinist file approximately 8-inches long, which the officers believed to be a knife,” stated the DA’s Office.
Soledad Police dispatch was immediately notified of shots being fired at 11:51 p.m. The male subject was transported to a local hospital, where he is receiving treatment for his injuries. He is reported to be in stable condition.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Monterey County DA’s Office, which is standard protocol in cases of police use of force.
“Soledad Police Department is cooperating fully with the investigation, which will include a thorough review of the officer’s actions and the circumstances leading to the shooting,” stated the DA’s Office.
