GONZALES — Runners and walkers can start off the Fourth of July holiday at the Gonzales RX Pharmacy Fifth Annual Orange and Black 5K race slated to start at 8 a.m.

Proceeds for the 5K run/walk will benefit scholarships for Gonzales High School students. The race will start and end at Central Park. Registration forms are available at the Gonzales RX Pharmacy.

“The race is a good and healthy way to kick off the holiday,” said race organizer Cesar Ayon. “The Gonzales Rotary will be putting on the Fourth of July events with a kids area, barbecue, various booths, with the Boys Scouts, the Interact Club and Gonzales High football helping out. There will be three live bands that will be performing throughout the day. Residents and visitors are encouraged to attend the free event.”

Registered runners will receive a T-shirt and event bag with goodies, and after the last runner crosses the finish line there will be medals, raffle prizes and more. Runners and walkers are asked to pre-register as the entry will be higher the day of the event.
