GONZALES — Work is set to begin on the Old Stage Road reconstruction project between Buffalo Ranch and Iverson Road near Gonzales on Wednesday, May 25.

Construction is estimated to last about two months, with the project being completed in July.

Crews will be pulverizing and recycling the existing pavement surface in place and placing an asphalt overlay, from mileposts 1.26 to 2.88.

“This work will improve the rideability of the road and extend the pavement life,” according to Monterey County Public Works in a news release.

Most of the roadwork is expected to be done during the day between 4 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Temporary traffic control measures, such as lane closures and one-lane reversible traffic control, will be implemented during construction.

“Monterey County will make every effort to keep the community updated on the progress of the work and the impacts to traffic,” Public Works said.

Construction cost for the project, funded by SB1 and Measure X, is estimated at $2.1 million, with the contract awarded to Granite Construction Co. from Watsonville.
