SALINAS VALLEY — The National Steinbeck Center invites the community to celebrate the 123rd birthday of Nobel Prize-winning author John Steinbeck with a special “Pay What You Can” event from Thursday, Feb. 27, through Saturday, March 1.

During these three days, visitors can choose their own admission price, making the museum accessible to everyone and honoring Steinbeck’s commitment to the common man. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“We believe everyone should have the opportunity to experience the power of Steinbeck’s stories and explore his enduring legacy,” said John Holland, interim executive director of the National Steinbeck Center. “This ‘Pay What You Can’ event is our way of giving back to the community and ensuring that the museum is a welcoming space for all. We hope visitors will be inspired by Steinbeck’s vision and support our mission with whatever contribution they feel comfortable making, whether it’s a small donation or a generous gift above our regular admission.”

Visitors to the National Steinbeck Center, located at 1 Main St. in Salinas, will embark on an immersive journey through Steinbeck’s life and works. The center offers engaging, interactive exhibits that explore Steinbeck’s literary contributions, his impact on American culture, and the vibrant history of the Salinas Valley that inspired many of his stories, from “The Grapes of Wrath” to “East of Eden.”
