MONTEREY COUNTY — Monterey County Office of Education (MCOE) will host a Safety Symposium, designed to promote best practices, collaboration and preparedness for safer schools and communities, on Friday, Oct. 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at One Main, 1 Main St., in Salinas.
The full-day symposium — free to all registered attendees — will kick off with a breakfast and welcome, followed by three breakout sessions focused on youth mental health, crisis response, disaster preparedness, coordination and readiness. Attendees can connect with colleagues and engage with community organizations and safety vendors to ask questions and to receive resources. The Safety Symposium will equip participants with practical tools and strategies to enhance student wellness and strengthen school safety measures.
This event is a key initiative of the Monterey County Safe and Healthy Schools and Communities Coalition, a dedicated effort by MCOE to foster collaborative partnerships that prioritize student safety and well-being. The coalition works tirelessly to bring together stakeholders across the county to address critical issues affecting schools, and this symposium reflects its ongoing commitment to building resilient, supportive and safe learning environments for all students.
The symposium welcomes a diverse group of stakeholders, including school district leaders, school governance team members, business and community partners, law enforcement and first responders, public safety officials, probation officers, healthcare workers and elected officials. It aims to foster collaboration across sectors to support and protect school communities.
“The Safety Symposium is a vital opportunity for our county’s leaders and partners to come together, share expertise and build actionable plans to prioritize student safety and well-being,” said Monterey County Superintendent of Schools Deneen Guss. “By uniting diverse perspectives, we can create stronger, safer environments for our students to thrive.”
