SEASIDE — Monterey Bay Football Club has announced that its third annual open tryout for the first team will take place over two days beginning on Saturday, Jan. 20, and will continue on Sunday morning, Jan. 21.

From there, 30 players will be invited back for a final evaluation scrimmage on Tuesday, Jan. 23. Tryouts will take place at the California State University Monterey Bay (CSUMB) training fields, with the final scrimmage taking place at Cardinale Stadium.

In addition to the open tryout, each registrant will receive a complimentary ticket to a Monterey Bay home preseason match at Cardinale Stadium in February.

This month’s open tryout offers local players the opportunity to be evaluated by Monterey Bay F.C. Sporting Director and Head Coach Frank Yallop and his staff before training camp opens ahead of the 2024 USL Championship regular season.

During the Club’s first two open tryouts in 2022 and 2023, around 85% of the 160 participants were local from Monterey County.

“It’s a great opportunity for any player, especially those in the area, to come and show us their skills,” Yallop said. “It’s the perfect chance for these players to show our coaching staff their ability to play at the professional level and earn a spot in training camp for a further look from the team.”

Players must be 16 years of age or older, and are strongly encouraged to sign up now as limited spaces are available. Players will be contacted via email by Wednesday, Jan. 17, with individual check-in and game times for both Saturday and Sunday.

Make note of any health concerns during registration. Medical personnel will be onsite in case of injuries. All registrants will be required to sign a tryout waiver before they are allowed to participate.
