GONZALES — Juan Mendoza has been appointed to the position of police captain with the Gonzales Police Department, announced Gonzales Police Chief Keith Wise on March 7.

Mendoza, a 15-year veteran of the police department, began his career with Gonzales in 2007 as a patrol officer, promoting to corporal in 2014 and more recently held the rank of sergeant since 2017.

During his time with Gonzales, Mendoza has made some notable contributions, including leading a multi-agency Community Policing Academy in South Monterey County, National Night Out and other community policing projects, managing the department’s training division and the Field Training Officer Program.  

Now, in his new position, Mendoza will be responsible for assisting in the overall operations and command of the police department and will oversee and be directly involved in community engagement projects, training and support services as well as supporting the community’s policing service needs.
