MONTEREY COUNTY — Community Human Services and Gathering for Women are hosting a free event, “Solving Homelessness: A Community Conversation,” on Thursday, March 14, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Sunset Center’s Carpenter Hall in Carmel.

The discussion will feature Roxanne Wilson, Monterey County’s Director of Homeless Services, and Anastacia Wyatt, the City of Monterey’s Housing Manager, along with Sara Rubin, editor of Monterey County Weekly, who will serve as moderator. A reception organized by the Junior League of Monterey County will follow.

“This promises to be an insightful exchange of ideas among dynamic women who are actively working to end homelessness in our community,” said Robin McCrae, CEO at Community Human Services.

The event commemorates the third anniversary of Casa de Noche Buena, an emergency shelter located in Seaside for unaccompanied women and families with children experiencing homelessness. Since opening, the shelter has served more than 220 homeless individuals.

Casa de Noche Buena is co-operated by Community Human Services and Gathering for Women.

“Solving the homeless crisis is one of the most pressing issues in our community. I am looking forward to this conversation,” said Staci Alziebler-Perkins, executive director at Gathering for Women.

The event is free, but seating is limited. Registration is requested at bit.ly/solvingchs or by emailing rs**@ch********.org .

The event is sponsored by Montage Health, the Fund for Homeless Women of the Community Foundation for Monterey County, Interfaith Outreach of Carmel, Carmel Realty Company, the Carmel Gives Fund of the Community Foundation for Monterey County, KAZU-FM and Monterey County Weekly.
