To the Editor:

Recently I visited my grandparents resting place at the Soledad Cemetery. What a huge improvement since earlier this year. I wish I had gotten the gentleman’s name who was trimming the trees, but kudos to him and his crew for their efforts.

As many have noticed, the plaque has finally been placed at the bridge entering the Mission District. My father, John Soares, spent decades advocating for a wider, better bridge with letters dating back from Supervisor Petrovic in 1979. Since the dedication of the bridge, the American Legion has been a major force to get the plaque installed.

John was a veteran of D Day. Sadly, three veterans have passed; Craig Bianchi, Tom Vaughan and Dapper Skinner, who all worked on this endeavor.

My sincere thanks to the American Legion in Soledad who helped make this all happen, finally. Thank you to all for honoring my Dad.
