To the Editor:

I would like to describe to you and to your readers the experience my husband and I had at the Taylor Farms Family Health and Wellness Center in Gonzales today.

My husband was discharged from Natividad Medical Center on March 19 after four days in the hospital for a serious heart condition. The hospital staff suggested a follow-up visit with his primary care physician. An appointment was made at the Taylor clinic. My husband also has multiple sclerosis and is unable to stand or walk at all.

On the morning of the 23rd, I found that my husband had had a nose bleed during the night. I got his face cleaned as much as possible, dressed his wounds and got him dressed and called for help getting him out of bed. When that was done, I finished cleaning him up. The extra work caused us to be 15 minutes late for our appointment.

We checked in, I apologized for being late and explained about the nose bleed. The person at the desk asked us to have a seat. Someone came out and told us their policy was not to see anyone 10 minutes past their appointment so we would not be seen that day. This was after having sat in the lobby for over an hour.

We left and about 10 minutes later the clinic called back and said they tried to catch us and that a doctor could see us but only if we waited in a treatment room for an hour. We had already waited an hour to be told they would not see us.

Due to his medical conditions, he tires easily and by now we would most likely not see a doctor until 2pm. He certainly would have been too worn out to participate in the meeting or to interact with the doctor.
