SALINAS VALLEY — King City Mustangs baseball improved to 4-0 in the Cypress Division, currently sitting in first place with a game lead over the North Salinas Vikings.

In their only game last week, the Mustangs defeated the Marina Mariners, 14-0.

Pablo Aguirre earned the pitching victory, with relief in the fifth inning by Kino Sabala. Offensively, Jacoby Chavez had two basehits, RJ Ayon had two RBIs and Ernesto Aguirre-Rangel added two hits and finished with two RBIs.

King City will be off until April 13 with a road game at Seaside, followed by a home game with the Seaside Spartans on April 16.

Gonzales is 0-3 in the Cypress as they lost a pair of games to North Salinas. The Spartans fell 8-4 on the road and 18-7 at home. After spring break, Gonzales will play April 13 at Pajaro Valley and on April 16 at home against the Grizzlies.

Soledad Aztecs lost a home game (5-3) and road game (8-7) to the Carmel Padres. Ethan Sanchez pitched five innings for the Aztecs in the first game with eight strikeouts. On the road, the Aztecs had seven hits with Nathaniel Razo and Jordan Nichols leading the way with two hits apiece.

In games next week in the Gabilan Division, the Aztecs (4-7-1 overall) play April 8 at Monte Vista Christian in Watsonville and host the MVC Mustangs on April 10.

Greenfield is 3-5 in the Mission Division as the Bruins lost 10-0 at Pacific Grove and 14-0 at home to the Breakers. The Bruins were no-hit in the first game against Pacific Grove. 

On Thursday, Greenfield will begin a two-game road and home series with the Rancho San Juan Trailblazers. 

In softball, the Lady Bruins are 2-1 in the Santa Lucia Division after a 9-0 victory at home against visiting Gonzales. Kaya Correa earned the pitching victory, striking out nine batters in five innings in the no-hit win.

Greenfield plays Wednesday at Rancho San Juan and on Friday at North Monterey County.

Gonzales softball hosted King City on Monday and will host Monte Vista Christian on Wednesday afternoon.

The King City Mustangs lost 4-3 on the road to the Carmel Padres on April 2 in Mission Division play.

After the Gonzales game, the Lady Mustangs play the following day at North Monterey County and then travel for a game against Soledad on Friday.

In their only Mission Division contest of the week, the Lady Aztecs were defeated 15-6 at home by the Carmel Padres on March 31.
