GREENFIELD — While on patrol in a school zone Friday morning, a Greenfield police officer observed a vehicle driving recklessly.

When the officer attempted a traffic stop, the driver failed to yield. The vehicle eventually came to a stop after a short pursuit, at Highway 101 and Teague Avenue, south of Greenfield.

A search of the vehicle resulted in three loaded firearms, marijuana for sales and a high-capacity magazine.

One of the vehicle’s passengers, 20-year-old Joshua Fuentes Fernandez of Greenfield, was arrested for possession of a loaded, unregistered and stolen firearm, possession of high-capacity magazines, possession of marijuana for sales and child endangerment. He was taken to Monterey County Jail.

The driver, a 16-year-old from Gonzales, and a 17-year-old passenger from Soledad were also arrested for firearms-related charges and booked into Juvenile Hall.

“Our officers remain committed to protecting our schools and neighborhoods through proactive policing efforts. Community safety is always our priority,” stated Greenfield Police Department on social media on Oct. 3.
