GREENFIELD — A Greenfield teenager was arrested last week for drunken driving and other charges following a police pursuit on Highway 101.

On Saturday evening, Oct. 1, a patrol officer observed a vehicle driving in an unsafe manner and “believed the driver to be under the influence,” according to the Greenfield Police Department. “The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver failed to stop, and a pursuit ensued.”

The vehicle traveled south on Highway 101, where the California Highway Patrol and the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office assisted. Spike strips were deployed, which “successfully immobilized” the vehicle just south of Greenfield, police said.

The driver, a 16-year-old juvenile from Greenfield, was arrested for several charges, including driving under the influence of alcohol, vehicle pursuit, driving without a license and driving in excess of 100 mph.

The passengers, one 16-year-old and two 17-year-olds, all from Greenfield, were on probation. Those juveniles were issued citations and released to their parents.

“Greenfield Police Department and our allied agencies continue to work and keep our community safe,” police said.
