KING CITY — A Greenfield resident has been arrested in connection with a stabbing that killed a man Wednesday night in King City.
King City Police Department responded to a stabbing report at about 7:28 p.m. on Sept. 14 at a motel in the 0 block of Broadway Circle in King City. Officers found a 27-year-old Hispanic male victim laying on the ground, suffering from multiple stab wounds.
“Officers began first aid and continued until medical personnel arrived,” police said in a news release Thursday.
The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Police said investigators worked throughout the night examining evidence, conducting interviews and reviewing video surveillance footage to develop a suspect, 27-year-old Kevin James Powell of Greenfield.
A search warrant was served at Powell’s residence, located in the 200 block of Third Street in Greenfield, at about 8:25 a.m. on Sept. 15.
Powell was at the residence and taken into custody. He was later booked into Monterey County Jail on homicide charges.
Powell’s mother, 49-year-old Connie McKinley of Greenfield, was also taken into custody for a charge of being an accessory after the fact.
“King City Police Department would like to thank the Monterey County Sheriff’s Department, Soledad Police Department, California Highway Patrol and the Greenfield Police Department for their assistance with the investigation and service of the search warrant,” police said. “We would also like to thank the community for their continued support.”
