GONZALES — It was a rollercoaster ride for the Gonzales High baseball team last week as they held a four-run lead at home to the Carmel Padres in the fourth inning and lost the game, and then were no-hit by Carmel’s Dylan Houpt by a 13-0 score on the road.

In the game at Gonzales the Padres took a 4-0 lead in the top of the fourth but the Spartans scored three in the bottom of the inning to trail 4-3. Gonzales then scored two runs in the bottom of the third and three in bottom of the fourth to take an 8-4 score.

The Padres put the game away with three runs in the sixth inning to cut the lead to 8-7, and finished the game with a four-run seventh inning.

Manny Vargas had three hits and five runs batted in to lead Gonzales offensively. Against Houpt the Spartans struggled in the five-inning loss to the Padres and Houpt.

At 8-8 in the Mission Trial Athletic League the Spartan will finish the season with a two-game series with the Trinity Christian Warriors. Gonzales will honor its senior players in tomorrow’s game at home with the Warriors.
