GONZALES — Gonzales High’s boys’ soccer team hosted the Show and Shine Car Show on Saturday at the school stadium parking lot.
Cars, trucks and bikes of all makes and models were welcomed to the inaugural event that was a fundraiser for the soccer program.
The Spartans team partnered with the Knight Cruisers and Low Quality Car Clubs for the car show, which featured music by the Rudians Band from Salinas and DJ Albert Villa.
Food and drinks were sold, including a tasty chicken barbecue that was prepared by local chefs Joe Pacheco and Felix Maturino.
School clubs, along with Gonzales High’s girls’ soccer team, sold drinks, tacos, fruit cups and desserts.
In the afternoon, plaques were awarded to the participants in various categories. Winning Best of Show was Raul Hernandez’s 1963 Chevy Impala called, “Bella Rose.” Other plaque divisions included two People’s Choice awards and 12 Appreciation plaques.
Gonzales head soccer coach Miguel Viduari was pleased with how well everything turned out at the Oct. 4 event.
“I thought it was a good outcome as we had lots of local car clubs come out and support our program,” Vidauri said. “Although the people entering cars paid a fee, many of them also gave donations to our soccer program. We had a chicken barbecue takeout and people buying plates would walk over and look at the cars and buy from our vendors. This year there were a couple of other car shows going on, but I felt we had something that the locals were excited about here in town.”
