GONZALES — Senior citizens from Gonzales and beyond gathered for a pre-Thanksgiving meal last month at St. Theodore’s Parish Hall as guests of the Adventure Seeking Seniors group.
A meal of turkey, mashed potatoes and other traditional foods were served, along with pumpkin pie for dessert. After the meal, many in attendance took to the microphone to say what they were thankful for this year.
A prize drawing also took place with winners being awarded the opportunity to choose a Christmas or Thanksgiving themed prize.
The Nov. 20 event concluded with a visit by Monterey County District 3 Supervisor Chris Lopez.
He fielded questions from the audience, including his thoughts on: an improved internet system for South Monterey County; work that will be done to improve local highways to make them safer; and when might the River Road Bridge be worked on to make it wider.
“Giving the ability for traffic to go north and south on either way, and safe turnarounds on either way, we’ll be able to address the deaths we’ve had in our communities,” Lopez said. “It’s important that we do what we can to save lives.”
The next Adventure Seeking Seniors luncheon will take place on Dec. 18 and will be a Christmas theme.
