Gonzales Unified School District Superintendent Yvette Irving (City of Gonzales)

GONZALES — Gonzales Unified School District Governing Board has terminated the employment agreement with Superintendent Yvette Irving “after careful deliberation,” the district announced in a news release Wednesday.

School board members met Tuesday evening for their regular meeting, during which they voted 3-2 to terminate Irving’s agreement without cause. The Board cited “Paragraph 8, Termination without Cause” of her employment agreement that allows for the dismissal.

Board President Celeste Daniel and members Maria Cuevas and Cesar Ayon voted in favor of the termination, while members Araceli Flores and Jose Lopez dissented from the majority.

“The Board is grateful to and appreciates Ms. Irving’s dedication to the District,” the release stated.

Irving has been superintendent of the Gonzales Unified School District since July 2018. Before that, she spent two years as the assistant superintendent at the Monterey County Office of Education.
