CHUALAR — Monterey County Sheriff’s Office responded to an armed robbery on Sunday afternoon in Chualar before subsequently locating the suspect in Salinas and taking them into custody.
On Nov. 23, just after 2 p.m., deputies responded to a panic alarm at the Chualar Liquor Store, located on the 24000 block of Grant Street in the community of Chualar. They learned that a suspect entered the store brandishing a handgun and then fled the business with an undisclosed amount of money.
Deputies were able to obtain a license plate on the suspect vehicle, described as a burgundy-colored Cadillac Escalade. Information was broadcast to other agencies to be on the lookout for the vehicle.
Flock cameras in the City of Salinas alerted officers to the vehicle, which was located in the area of Casentini and Rico streets. Salinas Police Department officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. Together with sheriff’s deputies, they were able to detain the driver, who was positively identified as the suspect, and recover the stolen property.
Roy Hernandez, 28, of Gonzales was arrested and booked into the Monterey County Jail for armed robbery and other violations. His bail was set at $55,000.
“Monterey County Sheriff’s Office wishes to thank the Salinas Police Department for their assistance in locating and helping to arrest this dangerous subject,” stated the agency.
