GONZALES — Last year the City of Gonzales was recognized by the National Civic League as one of 10 All-America City award winners in the nation, and the Gonzales Public Works crew recently installed 25 double-sided All-America City banners around the city.

The vinyl banners display the All-America City shield and are provided to all award recipients free of charge by the National Civic League and their partner CGI Communications. Local businesses were given the opportunity to garner exposure for their business by having their logo added to a banner for a sponsorship fee.

The All-America City Award recognizes communities that leverage civic engagement, collaboration, inclusiveness and innovation to successfully address local issues, and a primary focus was placed on communities that are authentically involved in welcoming youth in this work.

“The banners are a great way to reinforce our city’s pride for receiving this prestigious award and reminds our community of the national honor and recognition our city received,” said City Manager Carmen Gil.

The mission of the National Civic League is to advance civic engagement to create equitable, thriving communities. Each year, since 1949, the National Civic League receives applications from across the country for the prestigious All-America City Award.

A competitive review process — based on the criteria of shared vision, civic engagement, inclusiveness and equity, collaboration, innovation and impact — ensures that each year’s recipients meet the values of the All-America City program.
