GONZALES — The City of Gonzales, in collaboration with Gonzales Customs and Street Life Car Club, hosted its third annual Car Show on Saturday in downtown Gonzales.

The April 5 event attracted hundreds of spectators to the area and featured 174 vehicles, along with custom bikes and motorcycles.

According to City of Gonzales Recreation Coordinator and Administrative Analyst Jessica Olmedo, the Car Show filled the Fourth Street, Alta Minor and parts of Day Street.

“As of Friday afternoon, we had 142 cars registered for the event,” Olmedo said. “The amount of cars grew to 174, as over 30 cars came to register on Saturday morning. Cars were driving into town as early as 7 a.m. and the streets filled up fast. We began the judging at noon for the different categories.”

A total of 20 vehicles received custom plaques in the Judges Choice category, and Mayor Pro-Tem Liz Silva gave out one Mayor’s Choice plaque. In addition, Gonzales Customs donated raffle prizes as well as four bicycles that were awarded to local youth.

“This is the first time that the City of Gonzales has collaborated with local shows to run this event,” Olmedo added. “Everything went well and everyone had a great time.”

Car Show participants and car enthusiasts enjoyed the early afternoon, viewing the custom cars, eating from various food vendors, browsing merchandise vendors and listening to music.

Monterey County Supervisor Chris Lopez expressed his gratitude for the event.

“Congratulations to the City of Gonzales on the incredible event and turnout of community at their … car show,” said Lopez on social media afterward. “The energy was off the charts and the cars too many to count. There were so many smiles and lots of delicious food options as the streets were shut down for the community to come together and enjoy cool cars and good company.”
