GONZALES — Gonzales Spartan players, coaches and parents gathered one last time to conclude the 2024 football season with a banquet and awards night Dec. 12 at the Gonzales High School cafeteria.
The varsity and JV football teams were able to celebrate at home after spending the season on the road due to construction work at Dick Force Stadium.
All in attendance enjoyed the dinner, which had been prepared for by the Shield Bearers nonprofit group.
After dinner and a presentation of team certificates and Gonzales High scholar athlete certificates, the coaches and staff presented team awards.
Junior varsity team awards were presented to the following players: Nelson Cisneros (MVP); Noah Rodriguez (Offensive Player of the Year); Christian Zazueta (Best Defensive Lineman); Sebastian Nunez (Best Offensive Lineman); Jeyson Figueroa and Efrain Lechuga-Oliva (Most Improved); Damian Amador (Spartan Spirit); and Jeffrey Schweiter (Coaches Award).
Varsity team awards were presented to the following players: Ray Blanco and Tony Garcia V (Golden Helmet); Jacob Hernandez and Josiah Rosales-Garcia (Best Offensive Lineman); Ely Cisneros (Best Offensive Back); Dominique Montiel and Nathaniel Alvarez (Best Defensive Lineman); Jason Tejeda (Best Defensive Back); Lawrence Bettencourt (Most Improved); Alejandro Anguiano, Gabriel Barragan, Isaiah Martinez and Joshua Mariscal (Coaches Awards); and Jackie Camacho and Joel Lorenzo (Nick Alvarado Most Inspirational Award).
A highlight was the gift to the senior football players of a miniature megaphone from this year’s Little Big Game with King City that included the game score.
Coaches for this year’s Spartan football team were: Eddy Ramirez, Tony Garcia, Jimmy Carrillo, Steve Bentley, Dylan Oliveros, Jeff Schweitzer, Justin Tavarez, Juan Leyva, Peyton Flores, Aaron Franklin and Dylan Wade.
