SOLEDAD — Soledad Community Health Care District Foundation will host a drawing May 7 for an Amish quilt as part of its annual Mother’s Day fundraiser.

Proceeds from tickets purchased for the drawing of the queen-sized quilt will go toward the Soledad Women’s Health Center, which opened last December at 600 Main St.

Over the past four years, the Foundation’s fundraisers have brought in thousands of dollars for the health care district.

This year, however, Foundation Board President Patty Cruz said they expect to see lower results because of the pandemic’s effects on events and fundraisers.

“Last year due to the pandemic the fundraiser was canceled,” Cruz said. “After thoughtful consideration, the board president at the time, Pat Stephens, felt cancelling was the best decision to make due to everything that was going on with Covid.”

Though restrictions are easing, some components of fundraiser operations are still not possible, such as having the board meet in person to stuff envelopes to mail out.

There is no fundraising goal for this year, but Cruz said that funds are planned to be used for additional furnishing and decorations for the Women’s Health Center.

The Foundation typically hosts two fundraisers per year, the Mother’s Day event and its Gift of Light in December. Cruz said they are looking into more fundraisers throughout the year.

Additional winners will also be chosen every 15th person drawn for several other prizes in the event leading up to the grand-prize quilt drawing this Friday.
