GREENFIELD ā Greenfield police and fire departments responded to a car accident at the local Post Office on March 21 at about 2 p.m.
An 82-year-old man accidentally drove his vehicle into the side of the building, police said. He and his 90-year-old wife, who was with him, were unharmed.
Officers learned the driver believed his vehicle was in reverse, so he pressed the gas, accelerated over the curb, onto the sidewalk and stopped after hitting the building.
āThankfully, no one was hurt,ā police said.
Following the investigation, the vehicle was towed, and officers drove the couple home and contacted a family member to provide additional support for them.
Greenfield Public Works and the fire department confirmed that the building did not suffer major structural damage.
āThis incident serves as a reminder for everyone to stay alert while driving, especially as we age,ā police said. āLetās look out for one another and keep our community safe.ā
