GONZALES ā City of Gonzales has announced that on Feb. 28 the design/build team of Otto Construction/WRNS Studio submitted 100% construction documents for the Dennis and Janice Caprara Community Center Complex to the city for building code review by its building official.
This completes the eight-month design phase.
āCompletion of the design phase represents a major milestone in the cityās efforts to construct the Community Center Complex,ā said City Manager Carmen Gil.
The community center will be constructed on a city-owned parcel, and the entire complex will be about 13,314 square feet. Due to grant funding deadlines, construction of the complex will be phased.
Phase 1 is the Teen Innovation Center, County Library, meeting rooms, restrooms, courtyard including amphitheater and site improvements (new driveway, wet/dry utilities, parking lot and landscaping).
Phase 2 is the Community Center, including the Community Hall, Fitness Center, commercial kitchen, meeting rooms and restrooms.
The estimated budget for the entire project is $34.8 million.
Currently, the city has the funds to build Phase 1, which is estimated to cost $21 million.
Construction of this significant civic project will be funded by a variety of sources, including Measure X tax funds, County monies, state funding and several grants. The city is also engaged in a $10 million capital campaign, and has raised nearly $6.6 million.
A groundbreaking ceremony will be held Saturday, April 27, at 1 p.m. at the project site at Fifth Street and Gabilan Court, just east of Fairview Middle School.
