SOLEDAD — CRU Winery’s tasting room has been designated a Blue Zones Project Participating Organization — the first of its kind to join the health initiative in Monterey County.

The acknowledgment recognizes CRU Winery for actively implementing lifestyle changes and environmental modifications to promote longevity and overall well-being.

CRU Winery has partnered with Blue Zones Project Monterey County since 2023, hosting a monthly hiking series through the sustainably farmed Paraiso Vineyard at its tasting room in Soledad. This series inspired the winery to complete the Blue Zones Project Participating Organization checklist and review process, which addressed four pillars consistent with promoting overall well-being.

With this recognition, CRU Winery becomes the first tasting room in Monterey County to become a Blue Zones Project Participating Organization.

“This recognition represents CRU Winery’s dedication to supporting the overall health of our employees, visitors and the local community,” said CRU Winery CEO Nathan Stern. “Wellness and sustainability are a pillar at CRU Winery, and we are extremely proud to be recognized as a Blue Zones Project Participating Organization.”

CRU Winery celebrated the recognition with a community event at its Santa Lucia Highlands Tasting Room on Feb. 22. Blue Zones Project Monterey County was in attendance, along with Pancho’s Craft Pizza, music duo Songbird Meadow and other county businesses.

As a part of the Blue Zones principle of moving naturally, CRU Winery will once again be teaming up with Valley Farm Management and Blue Zones Project Monterey County to offer a monthly hiking series through the Paraiso Vineyard.

The hikes, which returned March 9, are offered the second Sunday of each month and start and end at the CRU Winery tasting room, 37500 Foothill Road, in Soledad.
