SALINAS VALLEY — Gonzales High senior runner Giovanni Ochoa placed 47th overall in the Division IV finals last Saturday at the California Interscholastic Federation State Cross Country Championships at Woodward Park in Fresno.
Ochoa ran the course in the time of 16:10 to knock 30 seconds off his personal best at the State Meet. He has ran at the State Meet for three consecutive years.
“Overall, Gio ran his race, pushed himself and ended his high school career with a PR (personal record),” said Gonzales head coach Margie Daniels. “Given that this was his third time, he already knew what to do, and I was confident he would perform well. Gio ran not only for himself but for his team, school and the Gonzales community.”
Fabian Mora of Greenfield High placed 124th in Division III and ran the Woodward course in a personal best of 16:36, an improvement of 17 seconds from last year’s State Meet.
Greenfield head coach Angel Villagomez was pleased with Serrano’s second trip to the State Meet.
“It was a great experience,” Villagomez said. “This was the second time for Fabian at the State Meet. We’ve been pleased but not content. We have one more shot at it and we have bigger expectations.”
