MONTEREY COUNTY — Applications are currently being accepted for the 2024 College Arts Scholarship offered by the Arts Council for Monterey County (Arts4MC).

The application period will end on Wednesday, March 6.

Graduating seniors from Monterey County high schools who are interested in pursuing higher education in a creative field are invited to apply. Each successful candidate will be awarded $2,500. Furthermore, Arts4MC will also grant the Joann Adair Memorial Scholarship to a Salinas student who is studying in the performing arts.

To be eligible, students must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be Monterey County resident;
  • Is a high school senior graduating in 2024; and
  • Able to provide a transcript of 2.0 GPA or above.

“These arts scholarships are a great way to support and empower young people to achieve their dreams and contribute to the creative vitality and rich artistic heritage of their community,” according to Arts4MC.

The career opportunities in creative fields are growing and varied, ranging from design (graphic design, architecture) to digital arts (filmmaking, game design, photography), literature and performing arts to visual arts (including crafts, such as ceramics).

Pursuing a college program can provide artists with access to essential training and professional mentors, as well as knowledge and skills in business, marketing and production.

“We want to encourage as many students as possible to apply,” said Jacquie Atchison, Arts4MC executive director. “Arts4MC is proud to be able to make these contributions to the local emerging artists of our community. Investing in them now is an investment in the future.”
