SOLEDAD — Soledad City Councilmember Alejandro Chavez has resigned from his position effective Oct. 31 after 13 years of service.
Chavez and his wife Erica Padilla-Chavez, who also resigned after 14 years as a trustee from the Hartnell College Governing Board, will be moving out of the area to be closer to family.
Both have accomplished much in the community over their years of service — from expanding retail, to bringing a movie theater and Hartnell College to Soledad, to creating state-of-the-art parks.
“We decided to juggle raising kids, having a career and being involved in public service because as children of immigrants who completed higher education and with careers, we knew we needed to pay it forward for our future generations,” Chavez posted on social media. “It’s been an honor and privilege to be of service to our community and South County region.”
Soledad City Council will discuss filling Chavez’s seat at its next meeting on Nov. 15.
Hartnell is soliciting applications to serve as an appointed member of the Board of Trustees for Padilla-Chavez’s District 6 seat until the next regularly scheduled election for governing board members, which is in November 2024. Applicants must submit their forms by Nov. 14.
