SALINAS VALLEY — California Rodeo Salinas has awarded educational scholarships to four Hartnell Community College students from the Salinas Valley.
Local students Angelita Cisneros-Aguilar, Ashton Headley, Kyras Headley and Diego Llamas each received a scholarship from the California Rodeo Association.
The 2020 recipients had to meet a set of requirements to receive a scholarship, including either currently attending Hartnell or transferring from Hartnell to a university. Graduating seniors from area high schools who will be attending Hartnell in the fall were also eligible.
Cisneros-Aguilar, 19, of Soledad is a recent graduate of Hartnell. She will attend California State University Chico to pursue a bachelor’s degree in crop and horticulture that “she hopes leads her back to the Salinas Valley where her passion for agriculture started,” according to the rodeo association in a news release.
Twin brothers Ashton and Kyras Headley, 18, are California Rodeo volunteers and recent graduates of King City High School. Ashton plans to attend San Jose State University to study computer science after earning his Associate of Arts degree at Hartnell. Kyras will attend Hartnell to study agriculture “so he can one day be a part of the industry that thrives here in the Salinas Valley,” the rodeo association said.
Llamas, 21, a Greenfield resident, recently began attending California State University Monterey Bay after studying at Hartnell. He plans to become a computer scientist and work in software development.
Since 1986, over 75 students have received scholarships from the California Rodeo Association totaling more than $85,000. The scholarship program is run through the Hartnell College Foundation.
