SOLEDAD — A Memorial Day performance of “Taps” was played by Liam Devenney on May 25 as part of a National Moment of Remembrance for Kevin McArthur.
Devenney, an eighth grader from Mountain View, posted the video online for others to watch and remember McArthur.
McArthur, a 33-year-old corporal with the Soledad Police Department, died in an off-duty motorcycle crash on Feb. 23 in San Jose. He was a six-year veteran of SPD, as well as a sergeant in the California Army National Guard Reserve.
“The National Moment of Remembrance designates 3 p.m. local time every Memorial Day as an opportunity to pause in an act of national unity for one minute of silence,” Devenney said in a message to communities asking if they wished to have a person remembered through his performance. “Many people observe the moment by playing, listening to ‘Taps.’”
